Poker is a game of skill that requires concentration and an understanding of the basic rules. It is also a social game where you get to learn the strategies of other players in a friendly environment. The game can teach you a lot of life lessons which can be applied to everyday situations.<\/p>\n
In most poker games you must ante up something (the amount varies but it is usually a small amount, like a nickel) to be dealt in. Once everyone has antes in, players place bets into the middle (called the pot). If you want to bet more than what someone else did, you can say \u201craise\u201d and add more money to the betting pool. You can also say \u201ccall\u201d if you want to match the last person\u2019s bet.<\/p>\n
Once the first round of betting is over, the dealer will deal three cards face up on the table which anyone can use (these are called the flop). After the flop has been dealt, the next betting round takes place. In this round players will assess their hands to see if they have the best poker hand.<\/p>\n
There are different types of poker hands, the most common being a full house, which contains 3 cards of one rank and 2 matching cards of another rank. There is also a flush, which contains 5 consecutive cards of the same suit.
